Role Summary/Purpose:

We are looking for a Hardware Developer to join our R&D team in the development of embedded systems for use in medical devices and AR/VR systems. Reporting to the Manager, Electronics Engineering you will be responsible for design, development, integration, and release of PCBAs for NDI’s advanced measurement systems. You will be working on hardware designs that include a wide variety of technologies ranging from low power analog electronics to high-speed processors in an innovative and challenging environment.

The successful candidate will work from our Waterloo office and collaborate with our team of professionals at our Ascension Technology Corporation office located in Shelburne, Vermont.

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop digital and mixed signal hardware systems
  • Create high level and detailed design specifications
  • Integrate leading edge electronic  technologies into new product designs
  • Work collaboratively as part of our cross-functional teams with our Product Teams, Project Managers, Mechanical and Software teams, including our team at Ascension Technology
  • Work closely with the embedded software team during hardware development
  • Assist in the FPGA development process
  • Ensure project completion is timely, striving to meet or exceed milestones

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technologist  Diploma , or equivalent
  • 7+  years of recent hands-on experience in hardware design

Required Skills:

  • Experience in digital signal processing systems
  • Proficient designing with ARM processors and writing low-level code for prototype development
  • Practical hands-on experience researching and developing new products using leading edge hardware and debug tools (ie logic analyzers and oscilloscopes)
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and sense of urgency
  • Strong organization skills, documentation skills, and the ability to communicate well both in writing and orally

Desired Characteristics/Additional Assets:

  • Experience working with FPGAs and/or ASICs
  • Familiarity with battery management and low power electronics
  • Experience selecting CODECs and low noise analog electronic components
  • Exposure to printed circuit board design tools
  • Familiarity with design for EMI/EMC compliance
